Ancestry.com DNA results shows that my paternal ancestry is mostly English (blue) with a smaller Scots (green) portion, and mostly Scots on my maternal side. So, I’m a little more Scots than English, with virtually all my English coming from my father’s (Shannon) side.

This genetic map is from LivingDNA, a British company which concentrates on just the UK. It more clearly shows my genetic ancestry geographically. Combined with the Ancestry.com data, most of my English ancestry is concentrated in the greater London region, indicating a long association with that population on my Shannon side.

So, how does a family with such a strong paternal connection back to Scotland become almost entirely English? When did this association begin?
